Latest Masilela News Ahead Of Pirates Soweto Derby

Orlando Pirates anticipate that Simphiwe Masilela will be ready for the Soweto Derby on Saturday against Kaizer Chiefs, as the young attacking midfielder was given a break during the Buccaneers Carling Knockout Cup match against Milford FC.

Pirates secured their spot in the quarter finals with a decisive 3-0 win over Milford on Tuesday night, but the focus has now shifted to the Betway Premiership, where they will confront their long time foes this weekend.

Chiefs will also approach this highly awaited match following a 3-0 cup win, having triumphed over TS Galaxy that same evening.

Masilela exclusion from the Pirates lineup against Milford sparked curiosity among some fans, especially in light of his recent form for the Soweto side. Nevertheless, reports from the club indicate that the 22 year old was rested, and it is anticipated that he will be fit for selection ahead of the derby.

There was a disciplinary aspect to this choice as well, since Masilela has accumulated three yellow cards in domestic play, leaving him just one caution away from suspension.

If he had played against Milford and received another yellow card, he would have been obliged to miss the significant match against Chiefs on Saturday.

Before the Tuesday encounter, Masilela had participated in 10 domestic cup and league games for Pirates this season, including six league appearances where he contributed one goal and one assist, along with four matches in the MTN8.

His anticipated return would be beneficial for the Buccaneers as they prepare for one of the major events on the South African football calendar.
