Ruto Allied MP from Mt Kenya Trails in the Parliamentary Race, Latest Opinion Poll Shows

Lari parliamentary race is gaining momentum as the clock ticks towards the next general election. The main contestants are the incumbent Hon. Mburu Kahangara, Josphine Miano, and Eng. Joseph Karichu.

According to the opinion poll released by Swiss Poll International on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the incumbent is trailing with a narrow margin.

The poll show that Josphine Miano is leading the race after getting 870 votes (28.0%). Kahangara follows closely in second place with 781 votes (25.1%), while Karichu is third with 577 votes (18.5%).

Other candidates featured in the survey include Hon. Jonah Mburu with 374 votes (12.0%), Nyutu wa Mwere with 230 votes (7.4%), Kenneth Kiarie with 177 votes (5.7%), and Mwangi Wa Kiwara with 70 votes (2.3%). Undecided voters stand at 4.7% (33 votes).

The poll utilized a sample size of 3,112 respondents with a +/-3% margin of error and a 95% confidence level.

Kahangara is currently serving his second term. He won the seat in the last general election on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket. Prior to his re-election, he had also served as the area legislator between 2013 and 2017.

The MP has remained a close ally of President William Ruto and he is backing his re-election bid. He is expected to seek another term in the 2027 Poll on the UDA ticket.

Miano on the other hand is allied with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who currently enjoys significant influence in the Mt Kenya region.

She might have an upper hand in the race if she ran on the Gachagua-led Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) which became popular in the region.
