Yesterday, 27 October 2026, the March and March movement protested at the Berea police station in KwaZulu-Natal against the alleged attack on a South African by a foreign national riding a motorcycle. During this protest, President Ramaphosa deployed the South African National Defence Force.

Jacinta then made a speech alleging that by deploying the military, the president wants to kill them. In Zulu, she said:

“He sent soldiers and police because he wants to kill us. Do you hear what I’m saying? President Ramaphosa sent police and soldiers because he wants to kill us.”

The President made a statement yesterday to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Honourable Thoko Didiza, as well as the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Honourable Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane, on the decision to deploy 510 members of the SANDF to help support and aid the South African Police Service in support of Operation Prosper.

Ramaphosa deployed the military to maintain law and order in KwaZulu-Natal, especially after recent violent actions arising from a campaign of misinformation about the Constitutional Court judgment on the Refugee Act.

[Statement] President Cyril Ramaphosa has informed the Speaker of the National Assembly, Honourable Thoko Didiza, and the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Honourable Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane, of his decision to deploy five hundred and ten (510) members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) in the province of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), for the service of cooperation with the South African Police Service (SAPS) in support of Operation Prosper.

The members of the SANDF will assist the SAPS in maintaining law and order in KZN, especially in light of recent violent actions arising from a campaign of misinformation about the Constitutional Court judgment on the Refugee Act.
