Sifuna Breaks Silence After Okwara Quits Citizen TV, Reveals What She Did For Him 13 Years Ago

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has joined Kenyans in celebrating veteran journalist Yvonne Okwara following her exit from Citizen TV.

In a warm message shared on his social media pages, Sifuna wished Okwara well as she starts her next chapter. He said he truly loved their little talks on The Explainer and described her as one of the best to ever do it in Kenyan journalism.

The senator also revealed a personal connection that many viewers did not know. He recalled that Okwara gave him his first ever appearance on television more than thirteen years ago, a gesture he said he will never forget.

Okwara announced her departure from the Royal Media Services owned station on Tuesday October 27, marking the end of a seven year stay. She joined Citizen TV in May 2018 after leaving KTN News and went on to become one of the most recognizable faces in the newsroom, anchoring prime time bulletins and hosting current affairs shows including News Gang and The Explainer.

Her interviews with Sifuna often made headlines. Their exchanges on The Explainer were sometimes tense, sometimes light, but always engaging, with viewers keenly following how she pressed him on politics, governance and party matters.

Okwara in her farewell message thanked her employer and her audience but did not reveal where she is headed next. Her exit has drawn wide reactions from viewers and leaders who have praised her sharp interviewing style and her contribution to broadcast journalism.

Meanwhile Head of Presidential Special Projects Dennis Itumbi has disclosed that Okwara is set to take up a new role at Shuga Global, formerly known as MTV Staying Alive Foundation, as head of government relations for East Africa.
