Ruto Lands in Russia in Mission to Secure Trade Deals and Jobs for Kenyans
President William Ruto has travelled to Moscow, Russia, to attend the Third Russia–Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, where he is expected to pursue new trade opportunities, attract investors and strengthen Kenya’s economic ties with Russia.
The visit comes as Kenya seeks to expand its export markets and create more opportunities for local businesses and workers. The forum is scheduled to take place from October 28 to 30, 2026, bringing together African and Russian leaders, government officials and business representatives.
According to State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, Ruto will use the meetings to advance Kenya’s economic interests, with a focus on increasing exports, attracting foreign investment and creating jobs.
One of the key priorities will be securing better access to international markets for Kenyan products, including tea, coffee, cut flowers, fresh produce and value-added goods.
The President is also expected to seek investment in agriculture, manufacturing, energy and infrastructure. These sectors are important to Kenya’s economic growth and could benefit from new partnerships with Russian businesses and other international investors.
Technology will also feature in the discussions. Kenya hopes to strengthen cooperation in artificial intelligence, digital innovation and technology transfer to help young people develop skills needed in the changing job market.
The government is also seeking partnerships that could provide affordable agricultural inputs and improve food security.
During the Africa–Russia Business Roundtable, Ruto is expected to present Kenya as an attractive destination for investment and a gateway to the wider African market. The discussions will seek to encourage joint ventures and business partnerships that can strengthen local industries and create employment.
Beyond economic matters, the forum will provide an opportunity for African leaders to discuss international peace, regional security and reforms to global institutions. African countries are also expected to push for stronger representation in international decision-making.
Ruto is expected to hold meetings with other heads of state, financial institutions and major companies on the sidelines of the forum.
His visit comes as Kenya seeks to diversify its international partnerships and turn diplomatic relations into practical benefits for citizens.
The success of the trip will depend on whether the discussions lead to concrete agreements, increased trade and investments that support Kenya’s economy.
