From Family Function to Forever! Iffy and Jide Kene’s Love Story Is So Sweet
Isn’t it amazing how love shows up in the most unexpected ways and turns a simple meet-cute into a beautiful forever story? For Nollywood star Jide Kene and his babygirl, Iffy, it all began at a family function, where something about his personality caught her attention. And just like that, the story was set in motion! ❤️
They kept bumping into each other, and before they knew it, a beautiful friendship had blossomed into love. To seal their love, they had a vibrant traditional wedding in Nigeria, where they beautifully honoured their Igbo roots. After performing all the traditional rites, the couple whisked off to the beautiful city of Italy for their white wedding ceremony. Iffy was an absolutely stunning bride, while Jide showed up looking every bit the dapper groom. They looked so beautiful together, and it’s such a delight to see their love radiating throughout their wedding photos. We’re loving every moment of their sweet love story, and we bet you would as you scroll!

At the time, both of my grandmothers were celebrating incredible milestones. My maternal grandmother was turning 90, and my paternal grandmother was turning 100. My siblings and I had planned a cousins’ hangout at a local hotel bar and grill, and that’s where I first saw my husband. What I didn’t know then was that he was my cousins’ longtime best friend. He was easily the funniest person in the room. He had everyone laughing and carried himself so effortlessly. We didn’t even have a conversation that night, but we noticed each other. Looking back now, that random night quietly became the first page of our story.
The next day was my maternal grandmother’s 90th birthday. I got to her house early to help her get ready and noticed all the boys from the night before were there except him. So I asked one of the guys, “Where’s the other tall one?” They laughed and said, “He’ll be here later.” I finally saw him after the Thanksgiving service at church. He was dressed in all black, looking so handsome, and I caught myself watching him from across the room as everyone mingled.
Later at the reception, he disappeared again. Then one of the guys came to tell me, “He said he’s only eating if you bring him food.” So naturally… I did. Before the party ended, I invited him and my cousins over to my dad’s house that evening. Truthfully, I just wanted him to come too. And he did. That night was easy. We talked for hours, laughed endlessly, and somewhere between all those conversations, a friendship quietly settled in. The next day was my paternal grandmother’s 100th birthday. He arrived fashionably late, took pictures, ate, and vanished again. This time, I actually went looking for him. My cousin Chioma told me she’d seen him walk out through the gate, so I ran outside. There he was, pacing back and forth like he was rehearsing a speech.
I asked, “Are you really leaving without saying goodbye?” He smiled and said, “Goodbyes are hard for me. And I don’t do hugs.” But somehow, before he left, he gave me one anyway. At the time, I thought we’d built a beautiful friendship. I had no idea I had just met my husband.
The proposal still feels like something out of a movie. My mum and I had flown to Abuja for a medical conference before heading back to Lagos. While we were there, he messaged me saying Winston Leather was doing a campaign shoot and wanted me to model for them. Anyone who knows me knows I wasn’t going to say no. I love modelling. He even asked me to send pictures of dresses I had just picked up from my tailor in Abuja, and he chose the one I’d wear for the shoot. Everything felt completely normal.
Before I left Abuja, Winston called and asked me to bring one of their new bags down to Lagos for the shoot. I didn’t inspect it. I simply carried it to the airport. When I arrived in Lagos, everything looked exactly like a real campaign. The photographers were setting up, Winston bags were arranged beautifully, and I went upstairs for hair and makeup. Meanwhile, I wasn’t expecting to see him at all.
A few days earlier, he’d told me he’d be in Cameroon for work for the rest of the week. Cameroon, it turned out, was a very convincing lie. Once I was ready, they handed me the same Winston bag I’d brought from Abuja and told me to head downstairs. As I stepped onto the staircase, I heard music. I noticed it… But kept walking. Then I looked over the railing. And there he was. Standing at the bottom of the stairs with a bouquet of flowers, surrounded by the most beautiful floral setup that read: “Will You Be Mine Forever?” My first instinct was to turn around and run back upstairs. I kept saying, “No! He’s supposed to be in Cameroon!” The glam team laughed and blocked my escape. “You have to keep walking,” they said. So I did.
Every single detail had been part of the surprise. The photoshoot. The bags. The photographers. Even the bag I’d carried from Abuja. When I reached him, he took the bag from my hands, opened it, and inside was my engagement ring. He got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I was so stunned that the tears didn’t come immediately. They came later.
After I said yes, we knelt together and thanked God for the journey that had brought us there. What I thought was just another exciting modelling day became one of the most unforgettable moments of my life. And the rest, as they say, is history. ❤️
