Kenyans Question Purpose of Apartment Balconies Without Visible Doors

A video showing an apartment block with decorative balconies that have no visible access doors has sparked reactions online, with Kenyans questioning the purpose of the unusual architectural design.

The building, which features several balconies on its exterior, has attracted attention because the structures appear to lack doors or other visible entry points connecting them to the apartments. The design has left many people wondering how the balconies are intended to be used and whether they serve any practical purpose.

The video has generated discussions on social media, with some users expressing concerns about the quality of construction and the standards followed when designing residential buildings.

One commenter criticised the design, arguing that the balconies appeared to have been included without considering their intended function. The user questioned the reasoning behind constructing balconies that residents could not visibly access from inside their apartments.

“What’s the essence of those balconies when they have no doors?” the commenter asked.

The remark captured the concerns raised by some viewers, who questioned whether the balconies were designed for practical use or merely added to improve the building’s external appearance.

Balconies are commonly incorporated into residential buildings to provide occupants with additional outdoor space, fresh air and an opportunity to enjoy views from their apartments. Depending on the design, they can also improve the appearance of a building and create a sense of openness.

However, when balconies appear to lack access points, their intended function can become a subject of public curiosity, particularly when the building’s internal layout is not visible.

The incident has also drawn attention to the importance of architectural planning and the relationship between a building’s appearance and functionality. Some social media users believe that exterior features should serve clear purposes rather than being included without considering how occupants will use them.
