Ndegwa Njiru Fires Back at Ruto Over Circulation of Kalonzo Musyoka’s Misused Bereavement Photo
Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has delivered a politically charged message to President William Ruto, accusing his administration of exploiting private moments of grief for political purposes amid escalating tensions between the government and the opposition.
The lawyer’s remarks come after the circulation of an old photograph taken in October 2018, when Ruto, then Deputy President, visited Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka following the death of his father.
The photograph captured Ruto consoling Kalonzo alongside other political leaders, including Kithure Kindiki and Kipchumba Murkomen, during a period of personal bereavement.
In a statement dated October 27, 2026, Wiper Patriotic Front spokesperson Ndegwa Njiru condemned the circulation of the photograph, describing the alleged exploitation of Kalonzo’s grief as an act of political desperation.
The party maintained that the visit was a humanitarian gesture extended to a bereaved family and should not be twisted into a political weapon.
Njiru argued that the circulation of the image reflected a disturbing decline in political decency, insisting that personal tragedy should remain beyond the reach of political manipulation.
His remarks signal the deepening hostility between the Wiper camp and Ruto’s administration as the country edges closer to the 2027 General Election.
The outspoken lawyer further declared that neither intimidation nor propaganda would derail the opposition’s political mission. He maintained that Kalonzo’s presidential ambitions remained firmly intact, dismissing any suggestion that the historic encounter could alter the party’s current political direction.
In a particularly forceful declaration, Njiru affirmed that Kalonzo would only engage Ruto politically at the ballot box.
The statement underscores Wiper’s determination to draw a clear line between personal compassion and political competition, transforming an old photograph into the latest flashpoint in Kenya’s increasingly combative succession politics.
