“State-Sponsored Propaganda” Wiper Breaks Silence Over Viral Kalonzo-Ruto Photos

The Wiper Patriotic Front has defended its leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, after an old photograph of him with President William Ruto resurfaced on social media, sparking speculation about their political relationship.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Wiper spokesperson Ndegwa Njiru said the photograph was taken in 2018 when Ruto, then Deputy President, visited Kalonzo’s family to offer condolences following the death of his father. The visit reportedly included Kithure Kindiki and Kipchumba Murkomen.

Njiru criticised those circulating the photograph, accusing them of using a private moment of mourning to suggest political cooperation between Kalonzo and the current administration.

He described the move as an attempt to mislead the public and undermine trust within the opposition. Njiru also characterised the circulation of the image as a state-sponsored propaganda campaign, although the statement did not provide evidence to support that allegation.

Wiper maintained that Kalonzo intends to contest the 2027 presidential election and ruled out any political deal with Ruto outside the ballot.

“Our party leader and presidential candidate shall only meet the leader of this predatory regime at the ballot,” Njiru said.

The clarification comes amid efforts by opposition leaders to build a united front ahead of the 2027 General Election. Kalonzo recently held talks with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri, with discussions reportedly focused on opposition cooperation.
