Barasa Asks Sifuna To Invite Gachagua To Bungoma, Urges The Ex ODM SG To join Broad Based

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has challenged Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna over his ties with opposition leaders, urging him to leave the opposition and join the broad-based government before the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Tuesday, Barasa questioned why Sifuna had not invited former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to his Bungoma home. He argued that the relationship between the two leaders deserved scrutiny.

The governor claimed Sifuna was being treated as a junior partner within the opposition. He alleged that Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino were relying on Sifuna to attract young voters.

Barasa warned the senator against remaining in an arrangement where he plays second fiddle. He insisted Sifuna could secure a stronger political future by working with President William Ruto’s administration instead.

The remarks come days after Sifuna led a Linda Mwananchi delegation to Gachagua’s Wamunyoro home in Nyeri. The meeting attracted attention after speculation emerged about possible cooperation ahead of the next General Election.

Gachagua has previously indicated he would be open to supporting Sifuna or even serving as his running mate if political numbers favoured such a move.

Barasa remains one of the key figures supporting the ODM-UDA broad-based arrangement in Western Kenya. He has repeatedly criticised Sifuna’s independent political path and questioned its long-term prospects.

The two leaders have also clashed before over political loyalty and influence in Kakamega County. Sifuna had previously accused Barasa of abandoning him after receiving campaign support.

Barasa’s latest challenge adds fresh pressure on Sifuna as competition for influence within the opposition and the broad-based coalition continues to shape political debate ahead of 2027.
