We Can’t Work But Galamseyers Are Working Freely On Our Land – Mining Company Cries Out
A Director and shareholder of Northern Ashanti Mines, Fredrick Okine, has cried out over what he says is happening at their mining concession.
According to him, since their concession was forcibly taken over by officers from NAIMOS, they have not been able to do any work, but illegal miners have taken over the site and are working freely.
He said the situation is painful and frustrating.
“We cannot do any work, but the illegal miners are working; no one is chasing them out. The ones we chased out are back at the site working,” Fredrick Okine lamented.
He explained that before NAIMOS officers took over their concession, his company had worked hard to sack all illegal miners from the area to protect their legal concession. But now, all those illegal miners have returned and are mining without any fear.
According to him, no one is chasing the illegal miners out, even though his company, which has legal documents to mine there, is not allowed to work.
Fredrick Okine said this raises serious questions about the work of NAIMOS, which is supposed to fight illegal mining, not stop legal companies from working while allowing galamseyers to operate.
He is calling on government and the relevant authorities to intervene immediately and restore their concession to them, so they can go back to work legally and drive out the illegal miners again.
His cry adds to the growing concerns about how some anti-galamsey operations are being handled in the country.
