Kaizer Chiefs and TS Galaxy Team News Ahead of Carling Knockout Clash

Kaizer Chiefs will look to revive their season when they host TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Round of 16 at FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening, following their disappointing exit from the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Glamour Boys were eliminated by Zambia’s Red Arrows over the weekend despite recording a 1-0 victory in the second leg. The tie ended 1-1 on aggregate before Chiefs lost in the penalty shootout, bringing their continental campaign to an end.

Head coach Fernando Da Cruz will now turn his attention to the domestic cup competition, where a victory could provide a much-needed boost to the team and its supporters.

Chiefs have struggled to maintain consistency in recent weeks, recording several draws in the Betway Premiership. With pressure mounting on the coaching staff, Tuesday’s encounter represents an important opportunity to restore confidence ahead of the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates.

In terms of team news, goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner is unavailable after sustaining an injury before the recent continental fixture. Bruce Bvuma featured against Red Arrows, while Brandon Petersen could also be considered if he is fit enough to return to the starting lineup.

Defender Bradley Cross will be another player to watch after scoring the only goal in Chiefs’ recent victory over Red Arrows. Reeve Frosler, Mduduzi Shabalala and Mfundo Vilakazi could also play important roles as the team seeks to improve its attacking output.

TS Galaxy, meanwhile, arrive in Soweto hoping to end their difficult run of results. The club has struggled in the league and recently parted ways with head coach Bernard Parker, leaving caretaker coach Esau Mtsweni responsible for guiding the team.

Galaxy suffered a 3-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates in their last reported outing, making Tuesday’s clash an opportunity to respond positively.

The Rockets have also enjoyed success against Chiefs in previous cup meetings, including victories in the Nedbank Cup final in 2019 and another knockout encounter in 2021/22.

With both sides seeking a turnaround, the contest promises to be a crucial test for their ambitions in the competition.
