Small Money Loud Noise, Big Money Silence—Jeffrey Ocansey Expose Minority’s Selective Accountability

The Executive Director of Revenue Mobilisation Africa, Jeffrey Ocansey, says the Minority is chasing shadows over the South Africa evacuation.

According to him, the whole noise is about less than GH¢35,000, yet the country has bigger scandals involving hundreds of millions that remain unresolved.

He explained the maths. Even if three evacuees got GH¢2,000 instead of GH¢5,500, the shortfall is GH¢3,500 each, which is GH¢10,500. Add about 40 people who allegedly missed the GH¢500 transport allowance, that is GH¢20,000. Total is GH¢30,500 — less than GH¢35,000.

“How is less than GH¢35,000 a scandal while the NSS ghost names, Pwalugu Dam, Sky Train and National Cathedral controversies remain?” he asked.

He listed the big scandals Ghanaians are still waiting for answers on.

First, the NSS ghost names scandal, where thousands of fake names were allegedly inserted into the National Service payroll, costing the state over GH¢500 million.

Second, the Pwalugu Dam project, where $12 million was reportedly paid to a contractor, but no dam has been built.

Third, the Accra Sky Train, where $2 million was paid for a project that never took off.

Fourth, the National Cathedral, where over $58 million of taxpayers’ money was spent, yet the site remains an empty pit.

Ocansey said if Parliament is serious about accountability, these are the cases that should be making headlines and triggering calls for resignation and prosecution.

He said turning less than GH¢35,000 — which has not even been proven with a single formal petition — into a national crisis while ignoring the big scandals is not genuine accountability.

He called on the Minority to be consistent and demand independent audits for all the major scandals, not just the South Africa evacuation.
