DStv goes for GH¢50 beginning from November 5 as Sam George announces affordable packages
Ghanaians will soon pay as low as GH¢50 per month for DStv as government announces new affordable packages to tackle TV piracy.
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, announced this new DStv package at a press conference.
According to him, the new packages will be introduced from November 5, 2026.
He explained that a package priced at GH¢50 will cost less than GH¢2 a day while another package will cost slightly above GH¢3 a day .
He added that the implementation will be subject to clearance from the Attorney-General.
On piracy, the Minister said government will work with the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), National Communications Authority (NCA), National Security, customs division and other agencies to clamp down on the sale and use of pirated decoders and illegal TV boxes.
“If you’re going to make it a high risk enterprise for people to use pirated boxes, then you need to make it a low entry access for everybody,” he stated, explaining how to curb the piracy.
He disclosed that the committee set up to deal with subscription pricing and piracy is still active and its mandate goes beyond pricing to include enforcement.
The Minister further said engagements with Canal+, owner of MultiChoice Group, have been fruitful and point to a sustainable solution for Ghanaians.
He added that Canal+ will soon announce the specific packages.
“I think that for us, when we began this journey with MultiChoice and now, Canal+, the question had been very simple. How do we put content in the hands or in the homes of Ghanaian families at a price that is affordable? The Ghanaian consumer is our ultimate interest,” Sam George said.
MultiChoice Ghana CEO, Alex Okyere, confirmed that MultiChoice and Canal+ are now merged into one group.
The CEO stressed that the prices are not promo but fixed prices.
“This is not a promo. These are the new packs, new prices that are here to stay. These are the new packs, new prices that are here to stay. So, I think that answers the question,” Mr. Okyere said.
The move comes after months of public outcry over high DStv subscription fees and the influx of pirated decoders which government says is hurting consumers and the local broadcasting industry.
