Girlfriend Demands R30 000 Payout to Leave a Relationship, Before Stabbing Boyfriend to Death

Khanyiso Steve Nkomombili (32) was allegedly stabbed to death by his girlfriend in the early hours of Friday, 23 October.

The horrific incident took place at Mandela informal settlement in Katlehong, where the couple lived together.

The victim’s devastated aunt, Nosethu Kraqa (43), said the family was woken up at dawn by a child knocking at their gate to inform them of the tragedy.

“The child told us that my nephew (Steve) had been killed by his girlfriend. When we arrived, we found my nephew lying in a pool of blood in the yard,” said Nosethu.

According to Nesothu, the girlfriend was still holding the weapon she used to commit the crime when the family arrived at the scene.

“I asked her why she killed my nephew, and she responded by asking who I expected to die between the two of them. My husband turned my nephew over to check if he was still breathing, but unfortunately, he was already dead,” Nosethu shared.

The family immediately contacted the police, who arrived to secure the scene and take statements.

A child who witnessed the events told the family that the girlfriend returned home from a tavern at midnight and knocked on the door.

“After the child let her in, a heated argument broke out between the couple.

Nosethu stated that the girlfriend allegedly waited for her nephew to fall asleep before stabbing him.

“After the initial stabbing, my nephew tried to flee. He ran toward a stationary car in the yard, but she pursued him. He then tried to seek refuge in one of the back rooms, but she dragged him out and continued to attack him,” Nosethu explained.

Nosethu shared that as she stabbed him, his nephew pleaded with her, asking why she was doing this to him. “Traces of blood were later found inside the room where Steve had desperately tried to seek refuge.”

The victim’s uncle, Mzet Kraqa (52) revealed that Steve had been trying to end the relationship due to ongoing domestic issues.

“However, the girlfriend allegedly demanded a R30,000 payout to move out. The girlfriend said she was not going anywhere until he paid her that money. Steve had asked us, his family, to come and help him evict her. We hadn’t done it yet when she decided to kill him,” Mzet shared.

Mzet added that the suspect showed no remorse after the killing. “I believe she had always planned to kill him,” he said.
