5 Easy Steps Nigerians Can Check Their Name on INEC Voter Register Online Ahead of 2027 Elections

According to report by Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, registered voters preparing for the 2027 general elections can now verify their names and other information contained in the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) preliminary voter register through its online platform.

The initiative gives voters an opportunity to inspect the register for their respective polling units and identify mistakes, omissions or other discrepancies before the final register is published.

Here are five steps to check the register:

1. Access INEC’s voter register portal: Voters should visit INEC’s dedicated online register platform at display.inecnigeria.org to access the preliminary register.

2. Log into the platform: After opening the portal, users are required to follow the instructions provided to sign in. Access to the register is available only after completing the sign-in process.

3. Locate your polling unit: Users must select their state, local government area, ward and polling unit to view the appropriate register. Those who know their polling unit code can also enter it to find the relevant list.

4. Search the register for your details: The platform displays the names and photographs of registered voters attached to the selected polling unit.

To make the search easier, users can select a particular alphabet to view surnames beginning with that letter.

Voters are advised to carefully compare their names, photographs and other details with the information displayed. They can also review other entries in their polling unit’s register.

5. Be aware of the platform’s limitations: INEC’s online portal is primarily meant for inspecting the preliminary voter register.

It cannot be used to register as a voter, transfer registration to another polling unit or request a replacement for a Permanent Voter Card (PVC).

The system also does not allow users to search for an individual’s name across Nigeria. A voter must first select a specific polling unit before viewing its register.

INEC has also introduced access limits to prevent misuse of the platform. Users who exceed the permitted amount of information they can access may have to wait before trying again.

Those who need voter registration or other registration-related services should use INEC’s Continuous Voter Registration portal.

Following the inspection exercise, INEC is processing claims and objections submitted by voters.

The commission is expected to certify and publish the final voter register on December 15, 2026.

Voters who discover incorrect information or other discrepancies should follow INEC’s official procedures for filing claims or objections, since the online register itself does not provide correction or registration services.
