The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general election to online inspection following concerns from Nigerians and other stakeholders over access to the document.

The position was contained in a press statement dated October 26, 2026, and signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC).

In the statement, Haruna announced that the register, earlier displayed physically nationwide, is now available on its online platform.

The development offers registered voters another opportunity to scrutinise their particulars and identify possible errors ahead of the 2027 polls, in a move aimed at strengthening transparency and public confidence in the electoral process.

According to the statement, the physical display of the preliminary register had been conducted at registration areas nationwide from October 9 to 15, in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026.

However, acknowledging concerns over the desirability of online access, Haruna said the commission decided to make the same register available digitally.

“Accordingly, and in furtherance of its commitment to transparency,” Haruna said, the commission has made available the register on its online platform.

He said the platform is “https://display.inecnigeria.org” and contains “the same Preliminary Register of Voters earlier displayed at the Registration Areas.”

Haruna explained that the online publication is intended to widen public access to the register, complementing the physical exercise already completed across the country.

He, however, emphasised that the process of reviewing claims and objections arising from the exercise remains ongoing.

“The Commission continues to process claims and objections arising from the exercise,” Haruna said, adding that it is “in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2026.”

He said this is “preparatory to the certification and publication of the Final Register of Voters on 15th December 2026.”

Haruna noted that the December 15 deadline represents a key milestone in preparations for the 2027 general election, as the accuracy of the voters’ register remains central to electoral credibility.

He also expressed appreciation for the public’s engagement.

“The Commission appreciates the continued interest and constructive engagement of Nigerians,” Haruna said.

He reiterated the commission’s “commitment to transparency, accountability and the faithful implementation of the Electoral Act, 2026.”

According to Haruna, this commitment is aimed at “delivering credible elections.”

Registered voters can inspect the preliminary register through INEC’s online portal at https://display.inecnigeria.org.
