“It Wasn’t Hard Transitioning Because I Was The Producer, Writer And Singer”- Rudeboy On Psquare Split

Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, has opened up about his transition from the defunct music group Psquare to pursuing a solo career.

In a recent interview, the singer explained why moving on from the group was not as challenging as many might have expected, revealing that he had already been handling several key responsibilities during their time together.

According to Rudeboy, he was responsible for writing songs, singing and producing music while Psquare was still together. He noted that these roles helped him settle into his solo career with less pressure.

“It was the same me that was doing it in the group, with due respect. I am the producer, I am the writer, I am the singer. Less stress,” he said.

Beyond discussing his music career, Rudeboy also spoke about the pressure of being a celebrity and how public perception influences his everyday decisions.

The singer explained that he finds it difficult to buy food from roadside vendors because people might interpret such actions as a sign that he is experiencing financial difficulties.

He also revealed that repeating outfits or driving the same car for an extended period could attract unnecessary criticism from the public.

According to him, some people expect celebrities to constantly upgrade their lifestyles, regardless of their personal preferences.

“I can’t buy food from roadside sellers; they’ll say I’m going broke. I can wear a cloth to an interview and mistakenly wear it again to perform, and they’ll say I’m repeating clothes. If I drive the same car for a month, they say I should change it. Now they said I should change my house; do you know where I live? Ikoyi, Lagos,” he said.

Rudeboy’s comments highlight the expectations celebrities face from fans and social media users, particularly regarding their spending habits, fashion choices and standard of living.

His remarks also offer insight into his experience as a solo artiste following the end of Psquare, one of Nigeria’s most popular music duos.
