Tema Oil Refinery Resumes Aviation Fuel Production, Records 30,894 Tonnes This Year
The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has resumed the production of aviation fuel, with the facility recording an output of 30,894 tonnes so far this year, according to its Managing Director, Edmond Kombat.
The development marks a significant step in the refinery’s efforts to restore and expand its operations while contributing to Ghana’s petroleum supply chain. Aviation fuel, commonly known as jet fuel, is essential to airline operations and plays a key role in supporting the aviation industry.
Kombat disclosed the production figures while highlighting the refinery’s return to aviation fuel production. The reported output of 30,894 tonnes demonstrates the scale of production achieved since the activity resumed.
The development could be important for Ghana’s aviation and energy sectors, particularly as the country seeks to strengthen local refining capacity and reduce reliance on imported petroleum products. However, the extent to which the renewed production will affect aviation fuel imports, prices and domestic supply will depend on demand, production costs and the refinery’s ability to sustain output.
TOR has a long-standing role in Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry. Its operational performance is therefore closely watched by stakeholders interested in local fuel production, energy security and the country’s industrial development.
The resumption of aviation fuel production also raises expectations about the refinery’s broader operational recovery and its capacity to contribute more consistently to the domestic market.
While the 30,894-tonne figure provides an indication of production recorded this year, further details on the exact resumption date, monthly output, production capacity and the share of Ghana’s aviation fuel demand met by TOR would help provide a clearer picture of the achievement.
For now, Kombat’s announcement places the refinery’s renewed aviation fuel production among the latest developments in Ghana’s efforts to strengthen its domestic petroleum industry.
