Bello Road in Singa Market, Kano to Be Closed for Two Weeks
The Singa Market and Environs Development Association (SIMDA) has announced the closure of Bello Road inside Kasuwar Singa, Kano, to all vehicular movement for two weeks to allow for the installation of a safety barrier.
According to a statement signed by the Secretary General of SIMDA, Amb. Abubakar Usman Ali, the closure will commence today, Monday, October 26, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. and is expected to last until November 9, 2026. The association said the project is aimed at protecting lives and preventing accidents along the busy market road. During the period, no vehicle will be allowed to enter Bello Road, and traders, drivers and other road users have been advised to make alternative arrangements and use other routes.
SIMDA warned that anyone who violates the road closure order will face sanctions. The association also called for full public cooperation until the project is completed. The closure is expected to affect movement within and around Kasuwar Singa, one of Kano’s major commercial hubs. Traders and transport operators have been urged to plan their activities around the restriction to avoid delays and inconvenience.
Bello Road has been a focus of infrastructure attention in recent months. In February, the Kano State Government announced a ₦3 billion road expansion and rehabilitation project covering Bello Road, Ado Bayero Road, Kandoki, Yolawa and Kwangiri roads, aimed at reducing flood risk and traffic congestion around the Kano market environment.
The installation of a safety barrier is part of efforts to improve safety and reduce the risk of accidents in the busy market area. SIMDA said the project is necessary to protect lives and ensure smoother movement within the market and its environs.
Residents and traders have been urged to cooperate with the association and security personnel during the closure period. The association assured the public that the project would be completed within the two-week timeframe. Motorists and commuters are advised to seek alternative routes and avoid Bello Road until the closure is lifted on November 9, 2026.
