Today’s Headlines: I Can’t Join Indecent People To Remove Tinubu-Sowore, Trump blasts Norway over Nobel Peace Prize snub
The African Action Congress, AAC, presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has said politicians in the opposition coalition are not different from President Bola Tinubu.
Sowore said he cannot be part of a coalition of ‘indecent people’ just to remove President Tinubu.
He made the statement during an interview on Deep Insight Podcast on Monday.
He was speaking on the opposition coalition led by Atiku Abubakar and other opposition leaders.
US President Donald Trump speaks after signing executive orders in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, DC, on August 7, 2026.
US President Donald Trump attacked Norway during a campaign rally, calling it a “shit house country,” and said that Norwegian immigrants were not welcome in the United States because its Nobel Committee had not awarded him the Peace Prize.
“Frankly, Norway sucks. Norway has become a shit house country, actually,” he said during Sunday’s speech.
Since returning to the White House in January 2025, Trump has made no secret of his desire to win the prestigious Nobel Peace prize.
Judge and former UN rights chief Navi Pillay of South Africa was this year’s recipient of the prize.
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election, expressing Nigeria’s readiness to deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, energy and technology.
Tinubu described Lula as his friend and his renewed mandate as an opportunity to strengthen the longstanding friendship and historical ties between Nigeria and Brazil.
The President’s message was contained in a statement he personally signed and issued by the State House on Monday, 26 October 2026.
Tinubu said both countries, as leading nations of the Global South, could promote economic integration and advance their shared interests amid a rapidly changing global order.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima has criticised former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar over his proposal to restore petrol subsidy, accusing him of prioritising political gains over Nigeria’s economic stability.
Shettima argued that bringing back the subsidy regime would reverse the government’s efforts to reform the economy and could push the country deeper into poverty.
Speaking at the Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja on Monday, the Vice-President said a leading presidential contender was advocating a return to the policy for political convenience.
“One of the leading presidential candidates is advocating for the return of the subsidy scheme. He wants us to backslide into penury for political convenience,” he said.
