Todayโ€™s Headlines: Tinubu deserves second term, showed courage previous governments lacked โ€” Wike; Nigerians are suffering – Primate Ayodele blasts Tinubu Govt

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that President Bola Tinubu deserves a second term in office, citing his decision to remove the petrol subsidy as evidence of the courage he said previous administrations lacked.

Wike made the declaration on Monday at a Rainbow Coalition stakeholdersโ€™ town hall meeting in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he urged residents to support Tinubuโ€™s re-election bid in 2027 and candidates endorsed by the coalition.

The minister acknowledged the economic hardship Nigerians were experiencing following the removal of the petrol subsidy but argued that the reform had increased revenue available to state and local governments, providing them with greater resources to meet their obligations.

According to him, Nigeria needs leaders who can take difficult and unpopular decisions in the countryโ€™s long-term interest rather than succumb to criticism.

Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele has knocked the Federal Government over the level of hardship in Nigeria.

In a video statement circulating on Sunday, Ayodele said everything is not going well under the current government and that Nigerians are in serious pain.

“Everything is not going well in Nigeria under this government. Nigerians are in serious pain,” he said.

He lamented rising school fees, high market prices, persistent insecurity and hardship.

The Ekiti State Police Command has expressed concern over the increasing number of road traffic accidents, resulting in fatalities and injuries across the state, particularly in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

The Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, said the police would step up traffic patrols, visibility policing and enforcement of relevant traffic laws in collaboration with appropriate traffic management agencies as the Yuletide season approached, as part of efforts to curb accidents and reckless driving in the state.

Falade, who spoke in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti by the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, on Monday, urged all road users โ€œto prioritise safety over speed and convenience. No journey is worth the loss of a life. Every road user has a responsibility to protect themselves and others.โ€

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the National Youth Service Corps have disowned certificates linked to a former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, a witness told the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday.

The witness, SP Yakubu Ibrahim, an investigator with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, disclosed this while testifying in the alleged certificate forgery case against Nnaji before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.

Led in evidence by the ICPC counsel, J.A. Mumini, SAN, Ibrahim said the commission commenced an investigation after receiving two separate petitions alleging certificate forgery against the former minister.
