Good News for DStv Subscribers as MultiChoice Introduces GH¢250 Football Package

MultiChoice has announced a new DStv Sports package priced at GH¢250, giving Ghanaian football fans a cheaper way to access its football content and raising fresh questions about the cost of watching live football in the country.

The new package is part of a wider change to DStv’s subscription options in Ghana. A report by Citi Newsroom says MultiChoice Ghana announced four packages at a joint press briefing with the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation on October 26. The new prices are scheduled to take effect on November 5, 2026.

The other options include a Starter Pack at GH¢50, a Select Pack at GH¢100 and an Ultimate Pack at GH¢570 per month. The Sports Pack is aimed at viewers who mainly want football and other sports without paying for the most expensive subscription.

The announcement is also likely to renew debate about the cost of pay television in Ghana. Some households may welcome the lower price, while others may still consider GH¢250 a heavy monthly expense, especially when food, transport, electricity and other bills must also be paid.

The change could help MultiChoice attract or retain customers who have considered cancelling their subscriptions because of the cost. However, the company will ultimately need to show that the new package offers good value and meets viewers’ expectations.
