Spot the Difference? Kenyans Compare Kalonzo, Sifuna’s Sitting Positions During Visit to Wamunyoro

Kenyans have compared the sitting positions of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna during their separate meetings with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence.

Kalonzo visited Gachagua on Monday, October 26, with the seating arrangement drawing attention from social media users who contrasted it with the one observed during Sifuna’s earlier meeting with the former deputy president.

During Kalonzo’s visit, the two leaders sat side by side, while Sifuna occupied a different position during his meeting with Gachagua, prompting online discussions about the possible political significance of the arrangements.

The comparisons came amid growing political engagements involving Gachagua as opposition leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Political analyst Bill Mijungu, speaking to Tuko, argued that Gachagua’s approach to opposition politics suggests he intends to maintain an independent position rather than join an existing coalition.

Mijungu assessed that the former deputy president could use his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) to field candidates in the coming elections while retaining the freedom to support a presidential ticket of his choice.

He also interpreted the seating arrangement during Kalonzo’s visit as a possible indication of the regard Gachagua has for the Wiper leader, although it did not amount to a formal endorsement.

Several Kenyans took to social media platform X to discuss the differences between the two meetings, with some interpreting the arrangements as a reflection of how Gachagua relates to the respective politicians.

Some users suggested that Kalonzo was treated as a political equal, while Sifuna’s position reflected a different relationship with the former deputy president.

However, the seating arrangements alone do not establish the two opposition leaders’ political standing or confirm Gachagua’s preferences.

Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence has increasingly become a meeting point for opposition figures seeking political engagement with the former deputy president as preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum.

The DCP leader’s earlier meeting with Sifuna on Mashujaa Day attracted attention, with Sifuna’s former colleagues in ODM criticising the senator’s political engagements. They accused Sifuna of claiming to carry the spirit of the late Raila Odinga while meeting Gachagua, whom they argued Raila would never have engaged with.
