Newton Weighs In On Bongo Ideas Demand For Investigation Into Sakodie’s Concert

Ghanaian social commentator Justice A. Newton-Offei has drawn attention to concerns surrounding an alleged safety incident at rapper Sarkodie’s concert, following calls by fellow commentator Albert Nat Hyde, popularly known as Bongo Ideas, for an investigation into the event.

In a Facebook post, Newton highlighted questions raised by Bongo Ideas about the emergency arrangements at the concert and the responsibility of organisers to protect attendees. The concerns focused on whether adequate preparations had been made to respond to medical emergencies.

Bongo Ideas reportedly raised the issue after a video allegedly showed a young man experiencing breathing difficulties during the performance. He questioned the response to the situation, including reports that the individual was placed inside a vehicle with its windows closed.

He also questioned whether qualified medical personnel and an ambulance were available at the venue to provide immediate assistance. According to the concerns he raised, proper medical support should be a fundamental requirement at major entertainment events where large crowds gather.

The commentator further argued that the welfare of concertgoers should take precedence over financial considerations. He questioned whether the organisers had prioritised the sale of VIP, VVIP and premium tickets at the expense of adequate safety arrangements.

In addition to the alleged safety concerns, Bongo Ideas described the concert as a flop based on his personal assessment. He compared its reported attendance with the ability of dancehall musician Shatta Wale to attract large crowds to his performances.

Despite his comments about attendance, his main concern was the alleged medical emergency and whether sufficient precautions had been taken to protect those present at the event.

Bongo Ideas called on Sarkodie, the concert organisers and the relevant authorities to respond to the concerns and investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. He also suggested that future concerts could be suspended if investigations established serious safety violations.

The allegations have brought attention to the importance of emergency preparedness, medical services and effective crowd management at large-scale entertainment events. However, the circumstances surrounding the reported incident and the adequacy of the organisers’ safety measures remain matters requiring verification.
