Ghana Ranked Eighth Largest Economy In Africa By IMF

Ghana has been ranked among the top economies in Africa according to the latest data from the International Monetary Fund, highlighting the country’s economic resilience and growth potential.

According to GBC Ghana Online which reported on October 24, the IMF World Economic Outlook shows Ghana as the eighth largest economy on the continent based on gross domestic product figures.

The ranking reflects recent economic reforms and recovery efforts undertaken by government to stabilize the economy and restore growth after global and domestic challenges.

According to CitiNewsroom which reported on October 24, the IMF data indicates that Ghana’s economy has shown steady improvement driven by growth in services, agriculture and industry sectors as well as improved fiscal management.

Economists say the ranking is a positive signal for investor confidence and could help attract more foreign direct investment into key sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture and technology.

According to Graphic Online which reported on October 24, the government has implemented measures to improve revenue mobilization, control expenditure and support private sector growth. These efforts have contributed to relative stability in the exchange rate and a gradual reduction in inflation.

The IMF report also notes that African economies are showing varied growth patterns, with larger economies facing different challenges including debt management and commodity price fluctuations. Ghana’s position among the top ten is seen as an achievement worth building upon.

According to GhanaWeb which reported on October 24, stakeholders have called for sustained reforms to maintain the momentum and ensure that economic growth translates into improved living standards for citizens.

They emphasize the need for continued investment in infrastructure, education and health as well as support for small and medium enterprises that create jobs.

The Ministry of Finance has indicated that it will continue to work with international partners including the IMF to implement policies that promote inclusive growth and fiscal sustainability.

Analysts have urged government to focus on value addition in agriculture and natural resources to increase export earnings and reduce dependence on raw commodity exports.

The ranking is expected to boost confidence among development partners and provide opportunities for Ghana to strengthen its regional trade position under the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Government says it remains committed to maintaining macroeconomic stability while pursuing initiatives that create jobs and improve livelihoods across the country.
