DStv Kenya Unveils 4 New Packages From KSh 750 as Sports Fans Get a Cheaper Option

DStv Kenya has announced a major overhaul of its subscription packages, introducing four new plans and a dedicated sports option in a move aimed at giving customers more choice over what they watch and how much they spend.

The new packages are scheduled to take effect on November 5, 2026, replacing the existing six-tier subscription structure. The announcement was made under the slogan “Tumewaskiza,” which translates to “We have listened” in Swahili.

Under the new pricing structure, customers will choose from Starter at KSh 750 per month, Select at KSh 1,500, Sports at KSh 3,000 and Ultimate at KSh 7,300.

The changes could particularly interest football fans who previously had to pay for larger entertainment packages to access their preferred sporting competitions.

According to the announced changes, customers moving from the former Compact Plus package, which cost KSh 7,300, could pay KSh 3,000 for the new Sports package if it provides the sporting content they need. That would represent a potential monthly saving of KSh 4,300.

Meanwhile, customers on the former Access package will see the new Select price rise by KSh 50, from KSh 1,450 to KSh 1,500. Those who used the Lite package will retain the KSh 750 entry-level price under the new Starter plan.

At the top end, Ultimate is designed for viewers seeking a broader entertainment offering alongside sports. The package is advertised as including more than 180 channels, with sporting content covering Formula 1, rugby, tennis, MotoGP and golf.

DStv’s announcement comes amid mounting pressure on traditional pay-TV providers as households reconsider their entertainment spending. Rising living costs, subscription prices and competition from streaming services have made affordability an increasingly important consideration for viewers.

The restructuring also follows Canal+’s acquisition of MultiChoice, DStv’s parent company, in a deal reported to be worth approximately KSh 390 billion. Canal+ executives have previously argued that having too many subscription options can complicate pricing and make it harder for customers to choose suitable packages.

Similar package restructuring has also been reported in other African markets, including South Africa and Nigeria.

Customers should confirm the final channel lists, package eligibility and switching arrangements through DStv Kenya’s official customer-service channels before changing their subscriptions..
