South African Star Leads Unstoppable 9-1 Demolition in CAF Champions League Mayhem

Makgalwa Shines Again! South African Star Helps Simba Complete 9-1 CAF Champions League Demolition

South African striker Keletso Makgalwa continued his impressive start to life in Tanzania after scoring again for Simba SC in their commanding 3-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea’s 15 de Agosto in the CAF Champions League on Sunday.

The victory at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam secured Simba’s place in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League group stage, with Steve Barker’s side completing an emphatic 9-1 aggregate triumph over their opponents.

Makgalwa was once again among the standout performers as the Tanzanian giants demonstrated their attacking strength to finish the second preliminary round in convincing fashion.

Having already established a significant advantage with a 6-1 victory in the first leg, Simba entered Sunday’s encounter as favourites to progress. However, they still needed to deliver a professional performance in front of their supporters to confirm their qualification.

The first half ended without a goal, as 15 de Agosto attempted to contain Simba’s attacking threat and keep their slim hopes of a comeback alive.

The hosts eventually broke the deadlock in the 57th minute when Ivorian forward Anicet Oura found the back of the net after a move involving Makgalwa helped create the opportunity.

Simba continued to apply pressure, and their persistence paid off again in the 69th minute when Elie Mpanzu doubled their advantage, putting the result beyond any realistic doubt.

Makgalwa then completed the scoring in the 78th minute, capping another influential performance and ensuring Simba finished the tie with three goals in the return leg.

The South African forward has now scored three goals and provided one assist since joining Simba from Sekhukhune United, underlining his growing importance to the club’s attacking plans.

The 29-year-old previously played for Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United, and his performances in Tanzania are providing a positive story for South African football followers tracking players competing abroad.

His contribution is also significant for Barker, who has assembled a side capable of producing impressive results on the continental stage.

Simba’s qualification marks an important step in their pursuit of African football’s biggest club prize. After eliminating Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers earlier in the qualifying campaign, they have now comfortably navigated another obstacle.

The group stage, however, will present a considerably tougher examination, with Simba expected to face stronger opposition from across the continent.

The Tanzanian club will need to maintain its attacking efficiency, defensive discipline and consistency if it hopes to make a serious impression.

For Makgalwa, the immediate challenge is to sustain his current form and establish himself as one of Simba’s key attacking players.

His latest goal has further strengthened his reputation in Tanzania, with the South African forward helping Barker’s team move closer to its continental ambitions.
