New Survey Reveals Who Will Win Presidential Seat if Elections Were to Be Held Today
Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, ODM party leader Oburu Oginga and Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale have been ranked among the least influential politicians in the country, according to a new survey by Research 8020.
The poll gauged the political mood of Gen Z and Millennial Kenyans ahead of the 2027 General Election. At the top of the influence rankings were Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
Most respondents said the country is headed in the wrong direction. They listed the cost of living, unemployment, corruption, high taxation, insecurity and poor leadership as their main concerns, especially among young Kenyans facing limited job opportunities and rising daily expenses.
The survey also pointed to a tight presidential contest. In a hypothetical election held today, President William Ruto would get 26% of the vote, with Sifuna just one percentage point behind at 25%.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka followed with 11%, former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i with 9% and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua with 7%.
Research 8020 cautioned that opinion polls only reflect voter sentiment at the time data is collected and should not be treated as predictions of the final result.
Sifuna’s showing suggests he is emerging as a notable political force as younger voters become more engaged in the country’s electoral landscape.
The senator recently met Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence, a place that has become a key stop for opposition consultations since the former deputy president’s removal from office. Sifuna thanked Gachagua and his wife, Mama Dorcas, for hosting the Linda Mwananchi team.
He described the meeting as the first of many engagements meant to foster opposition unity ahead of the General Elections, writing, “Mbele kuzuri.”
