Duduzane Reveals Message From Jacob Zuma Ahead Of Local Government Elections

uMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP) first deputy president Duduzane Zuma has assured party members that his father and party president, Jacob Zuma, is in good health, while promising that concerns over alleged manipulation of councillor candidate lists will be investigated.

Duduzane delivered the message while addressing party members and supporters at an MKP mini-rally in K Section, uMlazi, south of Durban, ahead of the local government elections scheduled for November 4.

Jacob Zuma had reportedly been hospitalised a few weeks earlier following a health scare, resulting in his absence from some party rallies.

Addressing supporters, Duduzane said the former president had instructed him to relay a message of focus until he could appear before members himself.

“One message the president of this party has told me to pass on today and yesterday, and whenever else it is that we go, until he shows up himself … by the way, he is doing absolutely fine, he is healthy,” Duduzane said.

He added that Jacob Zuma had demonstrated recently that he remained in charge of the organisation.

The health update comes as the MKP deals with internal tensions, including the removal of its secretary-general, Sbonelo Nomvalo. According to the party, Nomvalo’s removal followed concerns relating to the councillor selection process.

Duduzane acknowledged the controversy surrounding alleged changes to candidate lists, saying the party was working to establish what had happened and who was responsible.

“I can guarantee you, the president of this organisation uBaba uNxamalala, he is going to address the issues that people think we forgot about, the issues of lists, the people behind those lists changes over our councillor candidates,” he told supporters.

He alleged that the party had experienced disruptions and sabotage, adding that investigations into the system would seek to identify the circumstances surrounding the changes.

Duduzane said the party would report its findings once the investigations had established what happened and who was responsible.

However, he cautioned that the process might not be completed in full before November 4. While some matters could be addressed before the elections, others might have to be dealt with afterwards.

The remarks place Jacob Zuma’s expected return to public party activities alongside the MKP’s efforts to address internal concerns over candidate selection.

For now, Duduzane’s message to supporters was that the party should remain focused on the elections while investigations into the disputed councillor lists continue.
