Passengers Who Died Along Nairobi-Mombasa Road After Deadly Accident Were Coming From Burial

A somber atmosphere has enveloped the families of those who died in a collision involving a bus and a goods truck at Kanga, Mtito Andei, on the Nairobi-Mombasa Road around 7 a.m. on Sunday. 

At least 22 individuals were confirmed dead at the crash site, while several others sustained serious injuries and were taken to Mtito Andei Sub-County Hospital for treatment.

Authorities reported that the bus was carrying passengers returning home from a burial when the tragic incident occurred, resulting from a head-on collision with the truck. 

The crash’s impact was catastrophic, claiming numerous lives at the scene and leaving others with critical injuries.

Emergency responders and fellow motorists helped assist the victims as the injured were transported to receive medical care.

This accident took place at Kanga, close to Mtito Andei, on one of Kenya’s busiest highways, which links Nairobi to Mombasa and serves thousands of vehicles, including public transport and freight trucks.

Makueni County Commissioner Abdullahi Khalif confirmed the number of fatalities and noted that several passengers were injured in the crash.

He stated that investigations have commenced to determine the factors that contributed to this tragic event.

These inquiries will focus on how the bus and truck collided, as authorities seek to clarify the sequence of events leading up to the accident.
