Warri Wolves Football Club has reported an alleged attack on a match official following its Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 10 fixture against Kano Pillars at the Southern Delta University Stadium, Ozoro, to the police, calling for the arrest of the suspect.

The club disclosed this in a statement issued by its Media Officer, Oris Lilian, on Sunday, October 25, 2026, condemning the incident and distancing itself from the alleged assault.

According to the statement, the incident occurred after the match when the club secretary, accompanied by security personnel, escorted the match officials from the field to their designated bus.

“However, in a regrettable turn of events, an individual believed to be an overzealous spectator allegedly struck one of the officials in the face, leaving him with a bleeding nose,” the statement said.

Warri Wolves said its personnel intervened immediately, with the club’s medical team administering first aid to the affected official before he was taken to the hospital for further medical attention.

The club confirmed that the matter had been reported to the Ughelli Area Police Division, adding that efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest the suspect.

It also pledged to cooperate fully with the police and other relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and appropriate action under the law.

The statement added that the club “unequivocally dissociates itself from this reprehensible act” and does not condone hooliganism, violence, intimidation or assault against match officials, players, supporters or any other individual.

Warri Wolves apologised to the affected official and the relevant football authorities for the distress caused by the incident.

The club also urged its supporters and football enthusiasts to remain calm and conduct themselves responsibly, stressing its commitment to fair play, discipline, respect and sportsmanship.

It wished the affected official a speedy recovery and assured the football community that it would work with the relevant authorities to address the matter.
