Ruto Breaks Ground for KSh2.56 Billion Affordable Housing Project in Kitui

President William Ruto has broken ground for the Manyenyoni Affordable Housing Project in Kitui Town, a KSh2.56 billion development expected to deliver 1,030 housing units within 18 months.

The project is part of the government’s Affordable Housing Programme, which seeks to expand access to decent and affordable homes while stimulating economic activity and creating employment opportunities.

In his message, President Ruto said the housing projects were creating jobs for thousands of young people and opening up business opportunities for local entrepreneurs and small-scale manufacturers.

He highlighted the role of Jua Kali artisans in the construction sector, noting that they were benefiting from opportunities to supply essential building materials, including steel doors, windows and other construction products.

The initiative is expected to support local businesses, strengthen small-scale enterprises and provide income-generating opportunities for young people involved in construction and related industries.

The Manyenyoni project is among the government’s efforts to increase the supply of affordable housing while ensuring that major infrastructure investments contribute to employment creation and local economic growth.

With 1,030 housing units planned for completion in 18 months, the development is expected to contribute to the transformation of Kitui Town by expanding the availability of housing and supporting commercial activities linked to the construction sector.

The government has continued to promote affordable housing as a key pillar of its development agenda, linking residential projects to job creation, enterprise development and improved access to decent homes for Kenyans.
