Asante Kotoko Fight Back to Hold AshantiGold 1-1 in Thrilling Ashanti Derby

According to a report by MyJoyOnline published on October 25, 2026, Asante Kotoko came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against FC AshantiGold 04 in an exciting Ashanti Derby at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi during the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

Asante Kotoko travelled to Obuasi hoping to record consecutive league victories after defeating Young Apostles 2-1 in their previous match. However, the Porcupine Warriors faced a determined AshantiGold side that had won all three of its home matches since returning to the top flight.

The home team took the lead shortly before half-time when Samuel Fosu Boateng unleashed a long-range effort that deflected off Asante Kotoko defender Joseph Amoah before beating goalkeeper Aziz Dari Haruna.

Aziz Dari Haruna had earlier kept Asante Kotoko in the contest with an important save, preventing the hosts from extending their advantage before the interval.

After the break, Asante Kotoko increased their efforts to find an equaliser. Their persistence paid off in the 63rd minute when Asiedu scored from a powerful free-kick to bring the visitors level at 1-1.

The goal renewed Asante Kotoko’s hopes of completing a comeback, while FC AshantiGold 04 sought to regain their lead in front of their home supporters.

Both teams created opportunities in the closing stages, but neither could find a decisive goal. Aziz Dari Haruna again proved important for Asante Kotoko in the 79th minute, producing a save to deny the hosts.

The result extended Asante Kotoko’s winless run away from home in the league to four matches. For FC AshantiGold 04, the draw ended their run of three consecutive home victories since their promotion.

Before the encounter, Asante Kotoko had 12 points and occupied eighth place, while FC AshantiGold 04 had 11 points and sat in tenth position.

Asante Kotoko will next turn their attention to a match against league leaders Medeama, while FC AshantiGold 04 prepare to face Swedru All Blacks.
