Okonkwo Identifies Fallacies In Tinubu’s Speech At APC Campaign Flag-Off In Kaduna As A Takeaway

Kenneth Okonkwo, a lawyer, veteran Nollywood actor and spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Council, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his remarks at the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna State.

Okonkwo described the president’s speech as containing fallacies, arguing that Tinubu was attempting to shift responsibility for the hunger and poverty confronting Nigerians to previous administrations.

Reacting to the campaign event, which was held at the 5,000-capacity Ranchers Bees Stadium in Kaduna, Okonkwo questioned the rationale behind the president’s economic policies, particularly the removal of the petrol subsidy and the subsequent increase in fuel prices.

He argued that Tinubu inherited a petrol price of ₦195 per litre but that the price had risen to about ₦1,500 per litre under his administration, a development he linked to the worsening economic hardship experienced by Nigerians.

The Atiku campaign spokesman maintained that the president should take responsibility for the consequences of his administration’s policies rather than blame previous governments for the country’s economic difficulties.

Okonkwo also claimed that some residents of Kaduna expressed their disapproval of Tinubu during the campaign flag-off by chanting “Bamayi,” which he interpreted as a rejection of the president, while expressing support for Atiku Abubakar.

His remarks come amid growing political debates over the impact of the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, with opposition figures continuing to question their effects on the cost of living and the welfare of Nigerians.
