Tragedy on Mombasa Road: NTSA Releases Initial Findings on Mtito Andei Crash

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has released a preliminary report detailing what led to the horrific Sunday morning crash near Mtito Andei. The tragedy left 22 people dead and 16 others nursing injuries.

The early morning accident happened around 7:00 am at Kanga, along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa Highway. A bus belonging to The Power of the Word Church International was carrying mourners returning to Mombasa from a burial ceremony when it collided head-on with an oncoming commercial lorry.

NTSA officials stated that initial findings point to improper overtaking by the church bus as the main cause of the collision. Twenty people died on the spot, while two others passed away while receiving treatment in hospital. Survivors were rushed to Makindu Sub-County Hospital and Mtito Andei Hospital.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives and wish a speedy recovery to all those receiving treatment,NTSA said in an official statement.

The crash has plunged several families into deep sorrow, leaving a cloud of grief over the local community as crash investigators work with police to finalize their report.
