2027: Tinubu Takes Position Against Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, Declares Support for APC Governors
According to a report by Vanguard on Sunday 25 October 2026; President Bola Tinubu has declared support for All Progressives Congress (APC) governors opposed to the proposed rainbow coalition, using the party’s presidential campaign rally in Kaduna State to reinforce his administration’s political position ahead of the 2027 general election.
Tinubu made the declaration on Saturday, October 24, while addressing party supporters at the APC presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna; He praised the governors for their performances and urged Nigerians to support the ruling party in the forthcoming elections.
The President’s remarks came amid growing political manoeuvres ahead of the 2027 election, with different political actors exploring alliances and coalition arrangements to strengthen their chances at the polls.
According to reports, Tinubu commended APC governors for their developmental efforts, expressing confidence in their leadership and the achievements recorded under their respective administrations.
He also aligned himself with their opposition to the proposed rainbow coalition associated with efforts to bring different political interests together; The initiative has featured in political discussions involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The President called on Nigerians to vote for the APC across all levels of government, urging supporters to secure victory for the party’s presidential, governorship and legislative candidates.
Tinubu subsequently turned his attention to opposition politicians, accusing them of contributing to the economic problems and hardship currently experienced by Nigerians.
He dismissed their criticisms of his administration, arguing that those challenging his government had failed to provide credible alternatives capable of addressing the country’s difficulties.
The President also defended the removal of the petrol subsidy, insisting that the policy would not be reversed.
According to him, Nigerians should disregard claims suggesting that the subsidy could return, maintaining that its removal was a permanent decision by his administration.
Tinubu expressed optimism that the country’s economy would experience further improvement, promising continued efforts to achieve growth, recovery and expanded opportunities for citizens.
He urged supporters to prepare for the 2027 election by ensuring that they possessed their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), emphasising the importance of turning out to vote when the country goes to the polls.
Earlier, Vice President Kashim Shettima defended the administration’s performance, praising Tinubu for keeping the country together despite difficult economic circumstances.
Shettima said the government had remained resilient in the face of challenges and predictions that Nigeria could face severe instability.
He also highlighted developments in Kaduna State’s education sector, drawing attention to tertiary institutions and vocational centres established to improve access to education and empower young people.
The Vice President maintained that investments in education and skills acquisition remained important to preparing Nigerian youths for future opportunities.
The Kaduna rally provided the APC leadership with an opportunity to mobilise its supporters and promote the administration’s achievements as preparations for the 2027 general election intensify.
Tinubu’s remarks on the rainbow coalition also highlighted the political divisions and competing strategies emerging ahead of the election, as parties and influential political figures consider possible alliances.
With the contest expected to attract intense political activity, the President urged Nigerians to reject what he described as false claims from the opposition and support the APC’s agenda of growth, recovery and opportunity.
