Where Is Bheki Cele’s Imminent Arrest? Weeks After Reports, South Africans Want Answers

Some South Africans are wondering why, weeks after the rumors started circulating, there has been no publicly confirmed information about the possible imminent arrest of former Police Minister Bheki Cele.

In light of the continuing investigation into allegations of wrongdoing within South Africa’s police forces, the rumors have sparked discussions about who is responsible for what among high-ranking political officials.

Critics have questioned Cele’s handling of policing and crime management during his time as minister of police (2018–2024). It should not be assumed that just because there have been reports of a possible arrest that an arrest warrant has been issued or that an arrest is about to take place.
