Dubai-Based Ghanaian in Tears After Fiancée Sells House He Built on Her Mother’s Land
According to a report by GhanaWeb on Sunday, October 25, 2026, a Ghanaian man living in Dubai, Philip Asumang, has appealed for GH¢100,000 in compensation from his former fiancée, Florence, accusing her of selling a house he financed on land provided by her mother while he was working abroad.
Philip made the revelation during an appearance on Oyerepa Afutuo, a relationship and family dispute programme aired on Oyerepa TV, where he explained how his relationship with Florence began and the circumstances that eventually led to a disagreement over the property.
According to Philip, he first encountered Florence’s mother, popularly known as Maa Vic, while selling bread at Suame in the Ashanti Region, where the two developed a friendship through their business interactions.
He explained that Maa Vic later offered to help him find a wife by introducing him to one of her daughters, although he initially did not make a choice when she invited him to her home to meet them.
Philip said Maa Vic eventually contacted him and informed him that she had selected Florence as a potential partner for him, leading to communication between the two and the gradual development of their relationship.
He recounted that he later surprised Florence with food and gifts on her birthday before expressing his intention to marry her, but she initially rejected his proposal, saying she was not interested in a romantic relationship with him.
Despite the initial rejection, Philip said Florence’s mother promised to speak with her daughter, and the two eventually began dating, after which Maa Vic offered them a piece of land on which they could build a house when they had enough money.
Philip further disclosed that Florence later connected him with a travel agent recommended through her mother, which eventually helped him travel to Dubai for employment.
After securing work abroad, he said he regularly sent money to Ghana to finance the construction of the house on the land provided by Maa Vic, believing that the property would form part of their future together.
However, he alleged that Florence ended their relationship after the building had been completed and that he later received a call from her mother informing him that the house had been sold.
Philip said the development prompted him to return to Ghana to seek compensation for the money he had invested in the construction, insisting that he wanted to recover the amount he spent on the project.
“What I need right now is that I need my GH¢100,000 that I spent on the project from them,” he stated.
He also claimed that during a meeting to resolve the disagreement, Maa Vic accused him of owing her money, further complicating efforts to settle the matter.
Philip added that Florence had maintained throughout their relationship that she would not have sexual relations with him before marriage, a decision he said he respected during the period they spent together before he travelled abroad.
Responding to the allegations during the programme, Florence confirmed that she had informed Philip of her decision to end the relationship but offered a different explanation for the sale of the house.
She claimed that her family had previously provided Philip with GH¢12,000 to assist with his travel arrangements to Dubai and explained that the proceeds from the property were needed partly to support her younger sister’s education.
Florence maintained that she was prepared to refund some of the money to Philip after accounting for what she considered her share of the land’s value and the amount her family had lent him.
She insisted that although she was willing to return part of the proceeds, she believed she was entitled to a portion because the house was constructed on land belonging to her family.
