$700bn US Mineral Deal: Arewa Forum Challenges Tinubu Govt, Demands Answers for Nigerians
According to a report by Daily Post on Sunday October 25, 2026, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has urged the Federal Government to explain the terms and expected benefits of Nigeriaās reported $700 billion mineral deal with the United States, insisting that citizens deserve full disclosure about the agreement.
The forumās National Publicity Secretary, Professor Tukur Mohammed-Baba, made the demand during an interview on Arise Television on Saturday, calling on the government to be transparent about the arrangement.
āThe government needs to tell Nigerians what we are getting into with this deal,ā Mohammed-Baba said.
He stressed that Nigerians should be informed about the agreementās conditions, potential economic gains and wider implications, given the scale of the reported deal.
According to him, an agreement valued at $700 billion should not be handled in secrecy, particularly when citizens are grappling with economic hardship and seeking clarity on government decisions that could affect the countryās resources and development.
Mohammed-Baba called on the administration of President Bola Tinubu to release the full details of the agreement, warning that withholding information could fuel public suspicion and undermine trust in the government.
The ACF spokesperson maintained that transparency was essential to ensuring Nigerians understood the countryās commitments and what it stood to receive in return.
The development follows the signing of a critical minerals framework between Nigeria and the United States on September 23, 2026, at Nigeria House in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, according to a report by DAILY POST.
The forum said it would continue to advocate transparency and accountability in governance, stressing that Nigerians should have access to information about major agreements involving the nationās mineral resources.
The Federal Governmentās disclosure of the agreementās terms and expected benefits would help clarify its implications for Nigeria and address questions surrounding the reported $700 billion figure.
