Three Prominent NDC Communicators Who Did Not Pick Forms to Contest National Executive Positions
Three prominent figures associated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team have not picked nomination forms to contest national executive positions ahead of the party’s 2026 national executive elections.
They are Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod); Abass Nurudeen, Ashanti Regional Communications Officer of the NDC and Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Fund (SIF); and Malik Basintale, Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and former Deputy National Communications Officer of the party.
Their absence from the contest has attracted attention as the NDC prepares to elect new national executives to lead the party into its next phase.
Sammy Gyamfi, one of the NDC’s most recognisable communicators, will not seek re-election as the party’s National Communications Officer.
Gyamfi, who currently serves as the CEO of GoldBod, had previously indicated that he would not contest for another term, citing his responsibilities at the state institution.
The party’s Director of Elections and IT, Mahdi Gibril, subsequently confirmed that Gyamfi had not picked nomination forms before the October 21, 2026 deadline.
His decision marks a significant development for the party’s communications structure, considering his prominent role in defending the NDC’s policies and communicating its political positions.
Abass Nurudeen, the NDC Ashanti Regional Communications Officer and CEO of the Social Investment Fund, is another prominent party communicator who has not picked forms to contest a national executive position.
His name had featured in discussions about possible candidates who could succeed Sammy Gyamfi as National Communications Officer.
However, according to the information available, Nurudeen did not enter the national executive race before the nomination deadline.
He continues to hold his regional party position and government appointment, although his decision means he will not be part of the current contest for a national executive role.
Malik Basintale, the CEO of the Youth Employment Agency and a former Deputy National Communications Officer of the NDC, has also not picked nomination forms to contest a national executive position.
Basintale previously served as Sammy Gyamfi’s deputy and became a familiar face within the party’s communications machinery.
His decision not to enter the race comes as the NDC prepares for a leadership transition ahead of its next national delegates congress.
Mahdi Gibril confirmed that Basintale had not picked nomination forms before the October 21 deadline.
NDC prepares for national executive elections
The NDC’s nomination exercise closed on October 21, 2026, with 137 prospective aspirants reportedly picking forms to contest 14 national executive positions.
The party’s 11th National Delegates Congress is scheduled for December 19, 2026, when delegates are expected to elect executives to oversee its national administration and organisational activities.
The absence of Sammy Gyamfi, Abass Nurudeen and Malik Basintale from the contest has become a notable talking point as attention shifts to the individuals seeking to occupy key positions within the party.
Their decisions, however, do not necessarily mean they are withdrawing from the NDC’s political activities. All three remain associated with the party’s broader political and organisational landscape, while the upcoming elections will determine the next group of national executives.
