Today’s Headlines: Davido, K1, Others Grace Zlatan’s Traditional Wedding; FCCPC Bags Four Honours
Nigerian rapper Omoniyi Raphael, popularly known as Zlatan Ibile, and his partner, Davita Lamai, held their traditional wedding in Oniru, Lagos, on Saturday, October 24, 2026. The ceremony attracted prominent entertainers, including singer Davido, Fuji musician K1 De Ultimate and social media influencer Enioluwa Adeoluwa. The couple celebrated in Edo-inspired traditional attire decorated with coral beads before changing into matching mint-green and cream outfits.
The wedding marked another milestone in the couple’s relationship, which has largely remained private despite public interest. In a teaser for their wedding documentary, Davita revealed that Zlatan was too shy to ask for her phone number when they first met, prompting him to get someone else to obtain her contact details. The couple, who have two sons together, reportedly held a private civil wedding before the traditional ceremony.
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has received four honours and recognitions from media organisations and industry stakeholders for its efforts to protect consumers, promote fair competition and improve market regulation in Nigeria. NaijaTimes presented the commission’s Executive Vice Chairman, Tunji Bello, with the Institutional Integrity and Public Service Award, while Daily Independent nominated the FCCPC for Regulator of the Year 2026. The Aisha Babangida Foundation also shortlisted it for Regulatory Body of the Year, while BrandXchange named it Citizen-Centric Ministry, Department and Agency of the Year (Federal). Bello said the recognitions would encourage the commission to strengthen consumer protection and promote fairness in the marketplace.
Ibi Phillip, a Benue State University graduate abducted on September 30 while travelling to his NYSC orientation camp in Akure, Ondo State, has recounted how kidnappers tortured and held him and 11 other passengers for nine days in a forest. The abductors initially demanded ₦15 million from his family but eventually accepted ₦2 million for his release. He said another victim paid ₦4 million after using an AI-generated image to portray himself as a doctor, leading the kidnappers to believe he was a medical professional.
Phillip said the victims endured beatings, hunger, harsh weather and frequent movement between locations while in captivity. They were released on October 8 after their families delivered the negotiated ransoms near Okene, Kogi State. Following his release, Phillip reported the incident to the NYSC, the Department of State Services and the police, but expressed disappointment over the authorities’ response. He added that he still experiences fear and trauma from the ordeal and urged travellers to remain security-conscious.
Retired head teacher Charles Ogunbanwo has blamed the Ogun State Government’s failure to pay his wife, Hannah Ogunbanwo, nine months of retirement benefits for worsening the hardship she faced before her death on October 16. Hannah, who retired as a Level 16 head teacher in January 2026, had led other affected retirees in demanding their outstanding benefits, which reportedly grew from about ₦4 million to ₦15 million. Her husband said she received no retirement payment before her death despite participating in several protests and seeking government intervention.
Ogunbanwo disclosed that his wife underwent two surgeries after being diagnosed with cyanosis, with the family spending more than ₦8 million on treatment through donations, loans and other support. He argued that the financial pressure and stress surrounding her unpaid benefits took a toll on her health, although this was his personal assessment. He urged the state government to reconsider the Contributory Pension Scheme and address retirees’ grievances, insisting that workers who devoted years to public service should not be left without their earned benefits.
