Angry Kano Youths Attack APC Lawmaker’s Convoy Over Alleged Neglect
Angry youths in Garuruwa, Gabasawa Local Government Area of Kano State, have reportedly attacked the convoy of a member of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Chiroma Nalabara, over allegations of neglect and lack of development in their community.
Nalabara, who represents Gezawa/Gabasawa Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Congress, was said to have been visiting the community on Saturday as part of a campaign-related engagement when the incident occurred.
According to a report by SaharaReporters, the youths pelted the lawmaker’s convoy with objects while expressing displeasure over what they described as the failure of their representative to address the community’s needs.
The protesters were reportedly heard chanting in their local dialect, lamenting the alleged absence of meaningful development and basic amenities despite the lawmaker’s time in office.
A video of the incident, shared on X by a user identified as Bakatsine (@DanKatsina), showed a group of youths marching along a major road amid heightened tension.
Some of the youths were seen carrying long wooden sticks and clubs as the situation unfolded.
The footage, which circulated on social media on Saturday, captured the unrest surrounding the lawmaker’s visit, although the full circumstances leading to the confrontation were not immediately clear.
The incident highlights the tensions that can arise between elected representatives and their constituents over allegations of poor performance, inadequate infrastructure and unmet community needs.
However, the allegations of neglect were attributed to the protesters, and no independent evidence was provided in the report to establish the extent of development projects undertaken or neglected by the lawmaker.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Nalabara nor the Kano State Police Command had issued an official statement on the incident.
It was also unclear whether anyone sustained injuries, whether any property was damaged or whether security operatives made arrests in connection with the reported attack.
