Kenya Met Warns Of Heavy Rainfall In These Regions In The Next 24 Hours, Details

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a 24-operative weather update, warning that 24 counties will experience rainfall, with thunderstorms predicted in 13 of those regions over the next 24 hours.

​According to the bulletin released by the weather agency, the active weather pattern is largely concentrated across Western Kenya and parts of the Rift Valley. Bungoma County has been singled out for the heaviest forecasted rainfall, with light to moderate showers and thunderstorms expected across several parts during the afternoon hours.

​Counties slated for wet conditions include Nairobi, Mombasa, Kwale, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, Isiolo, Meru, Embu, Nyeri, Turkana, West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Baringo, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, and Kisumu. Of these, 13 regions predominantly in the western sector face specific thunderstorm risks, while the remaining 23 counties nationwide are projected to stay dry.

​In Nairobi, residents can expect light showers over isolated areas during the night, giving way to sunny intervals through Sunday.

Coastal regions such as Mombasa and Kwale will experience brief morning and afternoon showers, while northern areas like Mandera, Wajir, and Marsabit will see light intermittent rains.

​In addition to precipitation, the meteorological department has flagged strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 meters per second) across Turkana, Marsabit, Mombasa, Kilifi, and Garissa counties.

High daytime temperatures will peak at 37°C in Garissa and Turkana, whereas high-altitude areas like Nyandarua and Elgeyo Marakwet are forecasted to record cooler nighttime lows dropping to between 11°C and 13°C.
