Dampare Put Me In Prison And Ruined My Record – Shatta Wale Blasts Former IGP Again
Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has reopened old wounds with former IGP George Akuffo Dampare.
Speaking on TikTok Live on October 23, 2026, the musician said he still has not forgiven the former police chief for his arrest and time in prison in 2021.
Shatta Wale, real name Charles Nii Armah Mensah, was arrested on October 19, 2021, after police declared him wanted for faking a gunshot attack on himself. Police said preliminary investigations showed the widely reported shooting on October 18 was a hoax. He and his team members, including rapper Medikal, were briefly kept at Ankaful Prison.
Now, five years later, Shatta Wale says the punishment is still following him.
According to him, anytime he wants to travel abroad and he is asked about his criminal record, he has to explain that he has been to prison. He said the experience keeps hunting him whenever he applies for a visa.
In the live video, he directed strong words at Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, blaming him for the difficulties he continues to face because of his time behind bars.
This is not the first time Shatta Wale has vented his dislike for the former IGP. He has said over the years that what Dampare and the police service did still hurts and that he won’t forget it.
He also claimed Dampare showed no respect for his team when he ordered their arrest after a Shaxi float event.
Shatta Wale said he did not commit any serious crime to warrant being sent to Ankaful Medium prison in the Central Region, and that is why he is still angry.
For Shatta Wale, prison is not over. Every visa form reminds him of 2021.
