Red Arrows Coach Chisi Mbewe Celebrates Historic Kaizer Chiefs Elimination

Red Arrows coach Chisi Mbewe has expressed his delight after guiding his team to a historic victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the CAF Confederation Cup on Friday night.

The Zambian side achieved a significant milestone by eliminating the South African giants from the continental competition, delivering a result that will be remembered by the club and its supporters. For Mbewe, overcoming a team with Chiefs’ reputation represented a major achievement for Red Arrows and a proud moment for everyone associated with the club.

Knocking out a well-established opponent such as Kaizer Chiefs is a notable accomplishment for any side competing in African football. The result also underlined Red Arrows’ determination to make an impact beyond their domestic competitions and establish themselves as a team capable of challenging more widely recognised clubs.

Mbewe acknowledged that the match became more difficult after the break, when Chiefs increased their intensity and Bradley Cross scored to level the aggregate score. However, Red Arrows responded with substitutions and remained organised until the final whistle.

The coach praised his players for their fighting spirit, recognising the pressure they faced against a determined Chiefs side playing in front of their home supporters.

“This means a lot. It is not only for Red Arrows; this is for Zambia,” Mbewe said, dedicating the achievement to the country and its people.

He also described the qualification as a major source of motivation for the club, which will now compete in the Confederation Cup group stage for the first time in its history.

Mbewe believes the victory will give his players greater confidence as they prepare for the next phase of the competition. He also stressed the importance of making the most of home advantage in Ndola when the group-stage matches begin.

For Red Arrows, eliminating Kaizer Chiefs represents more than a memorable result against a prominent opponent. It marks a breakthrough in the club’s continental campaign and gives Zambian football a significant reason to celebrate.
