Christiana Ashiaku then scored in the fifth minute of added time to confirm the victory and secure Ghana’s progression to the next round.

Goalkeeper Belinda Maku Aklie also recorded her first clean sheet of the tournament, helping Ghana keep Canada from scoring in a crucial encounter.

The result takes Ghana to four points from three matches, securing second place in Group C and a place in the last 16.

The Black Maidens began their campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Norway but responded with a 3-3 draw against Brazil before overcoming Canada to advance.
