MATCH REPORT: Black Maidens beat Canada to reach knockout stage of U-17 Women’s World Cup
Ghana’s Black Maidens have secured qualification to the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after recording a 2-0 victory over Canada in their final Group match in Morocco.
Linda Achiaa opened the scoring in the 65th minute to put Ghana in front before Christiana Ashiaku added a second goal late in the game to seal all three points for coach Joe Nana Adarkwa’s side.
The victory marked an important response from the Black Maidens, who had lost their opening match against Norway before holding Brazil to a draw in their second group game.
Ghana entered the final fixture needing a strong performance to keep their campaign alive, and the team delivered with a disciplined display to overcome Canada and secure their place in the next round.
The result sends the Black Maidens into the round of 16, where they will face Argentina in the semi-final as they continue their quest for success at the tournament.
Joe Adarkwa and his players will now turn their attention to the Argentina encounter, with Ghana aiming to build on the confidence gained from their victory over Canada and progress further in the competition.
