FKF President Hussein Mohammed Meets FIFA Chief Gianni Infantino In Azerbaijan

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has celebrated Kenya’s participation in the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival 2026 in Baku, Azerbaijan, following an impressive 6-2 victory by the country’s boys’ team over Malta.

In a statement shared on Saturday, Mohammed revealed that he attended the launch of the tournament alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, FIFA Chief of Global Football Development Arsène Wenger and other football association presidents.

The festival marks a historic moment for youth football, bringing together 189 countries for the first global tournament of its kind at the under-15 level.

According to Mohammed, the event will feature almost 1,000 matches involving more than 3,000 young players at the Hovsan Olympic Complex in Azerbaijan.

Kenya’s participation provides an opportunity for its emerging footballers to compete against international opponents and gain valuable experience at an early stage of their development.

The Kenyan team made an encouraging start by defeating Malta 6-2 in its opening match, giving the young players a positive introduction to the international competition.

Mohammed said the festival reflects FIFA’s commitment to ensuring that talented players from different parts of the world receive opportunities to showcase their abilities on the global stage.

He noted that the initiative also aligns with FKF’s efforts to strengthen youth development and create clear pathways for young Kenyan footballers to progress in the sport.

The federation president emphasised the importance of exposing upcoming players to international competition, where they can develop their skills, build confidence and learn from different footballing environments.

The tournament is expected to provide participating nations with a platform to identify promising talent while encouraging broader participation in the game.
