Don’t expect us at your concert if your security like slapping Media people: GTV Ghana
GTV Ghana has issued a warning to concert organisers over the alleged mistreatment of media practitioners by security personnel at entertainment events.
In a post shared on Facebook, the broadcaster cautioned organisers whose security teams have a habit of slapping media personnel, indicating that such behaviour could influence its decision to attend concerts this year.
“Please note: If your security is in the habit of slapping media people, don’t expect us at your concert this year,” the post stated.
The message highlights growing concerns about the treatment of media practitioners at public events, particularly concerts where journalists, reporters, photographers and other media workers are expected to cover performances and provide coverage for their audiences.
Media personnel play an important role in promoting the entertainment industry by reporting on events, interviewing artistes, documenting performances and sharing information with the public. However, confrontations with security personnel can hinder their work and raise concerns about their safety while carrying out their professional duties.
Security teams are generally responsible for maintaining order, controlling access and protecting attendees, performers and event organisers. Nevertheless, these responsibilities are expected to be carried out professionally, without unnecessary intimidation or physical aggression towards accredited media personnel.
GTV Ghana’s statement appears to communicate a firm position on the issue, suggesting that the broadcaster may reconsider its participation in events where media workers are subjected to such treatment.
The warning also places responsibility on concert organisers to ensure that security personnel understand the importance of respecting journalists and other media professionals while enforcing event rules.
Although the post did not identify any specific concert organiser or security team, it sends a clear message to stakeholders in the entertainment industry about the need to maintain professional standards and safeguard media freedom.
The development could prompt further discussions about media access, journalist safety and the relationship between event organisers and media houses, particularly during major entertainment programmes across Ghana.
